Brian Smith (Interim 2007) Rev. Lawrence Young Jr. (2008 - Current) Parkway Community Church of God (originally Parkway First Church of God) had their first organizational meeting on July 9, 1980 in the home of Porter and Virginia Russ. Three Board of Trustee members were elected: Porter Russ, Bob Hurd and Bill Ticer. A Treasurer, Barbara Hurd and a Secretary, Pat Wainscott were also elected. The first church service was held on July 13, 1980 in the Russ home. Twenty seven people showed up that first morning to listen to guest speaker, Truman Harris. Only a few short weeks later our current property was purchased and the congregation held their first service in the new building on August 10, 1980. Shorty Riggs donated a new piano, Pearl Tucker donated a new refrigerator for the kitchen, Bill Ticer donated money toward telephone service and an anonymous donor provided money for pews. The people at Parkway have always had a heart to reach the lost in their community so while remodeling of the building began in preparation for larger crowds a group of volunteers began an extensive outreach ministry. It wasn't long before the little church began to grow. Today, Parkway continues to be a vibrant, growing family of believers. We've now outgrown our current facility and look to open a new Worship Center in May of 2010. |
